The internet isn't suffering from a shortage of people.
Ofcom's Online Nation 2025 found that online adults in Wales spent an average of 4 hours 50 minutes online each day in May 2025.
That makes digital media enormously important. It also means a local business advertising online is entering an environment full of messages, searches, videos, maps, feeds, shopping, email, entertainment and other adverts.
Reach and attention are different questions
Advertising platforms are very good at giving businesses numbers: impressions, clicks, views, reach and conversions. Those numbers can be useful.
LocalLoop isn't being built because online advertising is bad. Search, social and other digital channels can be extremely important for local businesses.
But a dashboard number does not remove the need to understand the environment in which the advertising appears.
If someone sees your business while actively searching for your service, that is one context. If they encounter it halfway through a crowded feed, that is another. If they see it while physically spending time inside another local business, that is another again.
Local businesses have a geography
The internet allows even very small businesses to advertise at scale. But a Newport plumber does not necessarily need everybody in Britain to know their name. A restaurant does not become more commercially successful simply because someone hundreds of miles away saw an advert.
Before buying an advertising channel, understand not only how many people it might reach, but how relevant the environment and audience are to your business.
Physical presence still has a role
A digital advertising screen inside a real venue combines digital creative with a physical location. The advert can be changed and managed without replacing printed material, while the placement exists in a specific local environment.
That combination is what LocalLoop is being built around. We place digital advertising screens inside selected local venues and make placements available to local businesses.
Five questions matter more than the latest trend
- Where will my advert appear? Be specific.
- Who is likely to encounter it? Which people actually matter to your business?
- What will they see? Different formats need different creative.
- What does it cost? Understand both price and commitment.
- What can reasonably be measured? Avoid both false precision and invented certainty.
Attention doesn't belong to one channel
Search matters. Social matters. Email matters. Physical presence can matter too. The right mix depends on the business.
LocalLoop's view is straightforward: local businesses deserve advertising options that are easy to understand. You should know where you appear, what you are buying and what you are paying.
